Second UK Flu Transfer Case
EscoThe 2009 swine flu outbreak is an epidemic of a new strain of influenza virus that was clinically identified in April 2009, a type of influenza A (H1N1) virus, commonly called swine flu. It is currently a Phase 5 outbreak, one level below an official pandemic.
On 1 May 2009, the second UK flu transfer case was reported. An Esco biological safety cabinet was in use at the UK's National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) in Hertfordshire, where a vaccine was being developed.
